Useless Wedding Extras

So throughout my wedding planning, I've come across (and fell victim to) what I like to call "useless wedding extras". These are the things that really are not necessary for your wedding but, they're "so cute" and all of the wedding websites and forums make it seem like you REALLY need them.

I want to start a list here of these, and you all leave comments and add on to the list!

Useless Wedding Extras:
  • Custom water bottle labels
  • Little nick-nack favors
  • Inner envelopes for your invitation
  • Out of town guest bags (maybe not useless, but def not necessary)
  • Matchy-matchy accessories and decor
  • Aisle runners
  • Videographer (In my opinion, a photographer is really enough)
  • Personalized napkins (they're cute but honestly...as a guest at a wedding I could care less about them)
  • Limo
  • Flowers everywhere
  • Engagement photos (Again not useless, but really not necessary)
Have any you'd like to add? :)

Updates coming soon!

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't written in this thing for a *long* time! I've been working a lot (at David's Bridal-wahoo), planning the wedding, and job searching....so other than my posts to [info]weddingplans  I don't get much time on here!

I will be posting an update entry this week!

Eeep!

*EDIT*
For reference:
My Background: I have my BA in Public Relations & Marketing, have done 3 internships, and also completed 21 hours of graduate work. Life happened, significant other got a job and we moved for that, got engaged, here I am.

*2nd EDIT*
I applied for a Customer Service position at DB, not the Bridal Sales Consultant position that they offered me. While I am personable and friendly with people, I am not that bubbly/out-going/in your face kind of salesperson. Never have, never will be.

Okay so, I interviewed for a job at David's Bridal like 2 or so weeks ago. I thought the interview did not go very well at all, and wasn't banking on hearing back from them. To be honest, I didn't really WANT to hear back from them. While I did purchase my wedding gown/shoes/veil there, after hearing more about the positions and how the store runs and all that....I just think I would be miserable. Anyway, they just called a little bit ago to offer me a part-time sales consultant position- so basically that chick fighting to get a sale from brides. The store isn't opening until January- I think I remember her saying training would start Dec. 15th or something.

Anyway, on this past Monday, I had an interview for a Publicist/Publicity Coordinator position with Author Solutions - Author House. So, a real "big girl job". I think the interview went really well- I liked the people and the job I would be doing, I was very prepared and answered the questions well as far as I know, sent follow-up thank you letters, etc. However, they won't be making their decision until after Christmas.

SO here's the thing...my fiance is an engineer and makes pretty good money but, of course he still has student loans he's paying on, my ring, rent and bills, etc. etc. My parents are also relatively supportive and helpful of us as well.

I don't want the David's Bridal job...at all. BUT I feel guilty that he is working and I am not. I REALLY want the Publicist position, but probably won't know the answer to that for another 3 weeks or so. I've also been looking into going back to graduate school to finish my Master's- so basically before getting the DB call today, the plan was to either get the Publicist position, or if I didn't- continue with the process to go back to school.

So what do you all think....

Option A: Take the David's Bridal job for the sake of having a part-time job and bring in a little bit of money but be miserable or,

Option B: Turn down the DB job and wait to hear about the Publicist job, which if not offered, continue with process to go back to school for Master's

Thoughts???

Dress advice?

So, I've been in lust with this dress ever since I laid eyes on it. Okay more like, in LOVE with it.

It is now on sale of course (damn you Nordstrom)- it was $158 and now it's $93.90 before tax and shipping.

My questions are:

1. Do you think you have to be a beanpole to look good in this? I have large chest and hips, and a small waist. I'm about 5'5''...

2. The only sizes left are 4, 6, and 10. An 8 would be the ideal size but since they don't have it- what do you think- 6 or 10? I've started working out and eating better lately to try and lose weight for the wedding in July, and since this might end up being my rehearsal dress...I'm just not sure if I should grab the 6 since I plan to lose weight anyway, or the 10 to be "safe"

THANKS!

*EDIT*

Just found this 2nd dress - opinions on one vs. the other??----

**2ND EDIT**
Okay so I was just looking at the first dress on Nordstrom's website and the size 6 is GONE! Just from earlier today the 6 is out of stock! lol

So I got freaked out and ordered the size 10 in the first dress! Ahh!

Returns & Exchanges are free, the order comes with a pre-paid postage label to use.

SO my plan is to get this one in, see if I like it; if I don't, I'll send it back and exchange it for the 2nd one!

----HOLY CRAP- I just went to the site again and there are only size 4's left now! I think I got the last size 10! lol----

Cause she's got Betty Davis eyes...

I'm very sorry for this week's review being so late everyone! I usually post on Tuesdays but of course this Tuesday I was busy with my face pasted to the TV and I've just been busy ever since! lol

THIS week I'll be reviewing mark Make It Big Lash Plumping Mascara, which you can snatch up for a very affordable $6.00 for HUGE tube! This mascara comes in the following shades:

Raven (Black)

Espresso (Brown)

I currently use the Raven shade, but have tried a sample of the Espresso and love it as well! They both bring out the natural beauty of your lashes while also giving you that "BAM!" factor at the same time.

The main benefits I see of this mascara are:

1. Price; For the quality of this stuff and the size of the tube, you seriously can NOT beat 6 bucks!

2. Brush: The wand brush of this mascara is great- large bristle count and a pretty large brush to begin with.

3. What is does to my lashes!: I naturally have very long lashes that curl up on their own, i.e. I am lucky lucky lucky. BUT one problem I always always have, which is why I switched to this mascara from my usual Loreal brand, is that my lashes tend to get stuck together to the point where it looks like I have like, 7 giant lashes instead of a bunch of little ones! haha

This stuff does SUCH a great job of separating all of my lashes, while also adding to the length and fullness of them at the same time.

So if you want some bold and beautiful lashes for a great price, I would honestly recommend trying out this mascara!

HAVE A GREAT
DAY

Oct. 28th, 2008

I met mark and he made me blush!

What is this week’s fantabulous product I will be reviewing?

I’m glad you asked! This week I’ll be talking about mark. by Avon’s Good Glowing Custom Pick Powder Blush. This isn’t your boring, Pepto-Bismol granny pink blushes. This product comes in 6 beautiful shades that are sure to compliment any complexion AND personality!

 The shades include:

  • Bronze Glo
  • Golden Glo
  • After Glo
  • Kitten Glo
  • Runway Glo
  • Star Glo

I’m currently using the After Glo shade and I LOVE it! It’s kind of a combination of a pale pink and some peach, with a bit of shimmer to it! That’s a great thing about ALL of the shades- they include a slight shimmer to the blush shade that is GREAT for highlighting your cheekbones and giving you a very fresh-faced look from just your blush!

Some other great features about this product that I want to point out are:

  • Price: This blush is seriously a steal. For the quality of the product, and the large ‘slab’ of blush that you get, you really can’t beat that price.

  • Colors: Another thing that I love about these is the natural tones of the different shades. While they all have that fun shimmer in them, they are all natural looking shades that will only compliment your face rather than stick out and look garish or “clown-like” as some brands of blush tend to look on me (curse this pale skin! Lol).

  • Slight shimmer/not glitter: Again, these blushes have a slight shimmer to them, but please don’t confuse with this the pre-teen glitter look! It is a very sheer shimmer that really highlights your cheekbones and gives you a beautiful glow!

  • Long-lasting: Okay so, most blushes don’t wipe off right away, I know this. BUT, I will say that this blush seriously lasts…all day. I wore it yesterday; I put it on at 8:30am, and it was still there when I washed my face for bed!

  • Quality: This stuff is seriously of top quality. The powders are very finely milled, and the pigmentation of the blush is very even and rich. This blush, in my opinion, is comparable to any of the high-priced department store or Sephora brands.

  • Container flexibility: I currently have my blush plopped into a: snap to it Custom Color Palette, which would only run you $4.00! The area to put your blush/eye shadows is magnetized, and the bottom of your blush/eye shadow casing is metal, so they just pop right in and stay! I also own the snap to it Mezzo Custom Color Palette, which will be available for you to purchase soon! There’s a larger version called the snap to it Mega Custom Color Palette, which only costs $8.00, and can fit quite a lot in it!

You could also just leave the blush in the plastic packaging it comes in. That’s what I did for a good while until I purchased the snap to it case!

Here's my Mezzo case with this blush in After Glo and some mark. eyeshadows in it:

Again, this product looks great, feels great, lasts, and is very cost-effective as well! If you have any questions about this product, or would like to see a photo of me in the blush, please just send me a message!

My lip gloss is poppin', my lip gloss is cool!

If you're anything like me, lip gloss is an absolute necessity in pretty much any situation. I always have at least 2 or 3 tubes of lip gloss in my purse at all times, and I'm always looking for cool new glosses to add to my ever growing collection.

Since I've started selling mark. By Avon, I've tried a good number of their products. One of these that I'm pretty much in love with are Juice Gems! Juice Gems a very versatile gloss that you can put on thick for a dramatic look or thin for just a touch of color. They also smell and taste great, and include real fruit juice!!

These lip glosses come in various colors and flavors including:

  • Juicy Berrylicious
  • Juicy Cassis
  • Juicy Cherry Pop
  • Juicy Fig
  • Juicy Honeydew
  • Juicy Mango Tango
  • Juicy Papaya
  • Juicy Passion Fruit
  • Juicy Pineapple
  • Juicy Pomegranate
  • Juicy Raspberry
  • Juicy Snow Peach
Go to my site to check the colors out for yourself!-
http://kgarvey.mymarkstore.com/

My current favorite is actually fig- it has a very subtle fruit taste and gives you just enough color but not too much! If you tend to lean more toward a subtle gloss with a bit of color and sparkle, this one would be perfect for you! Mango Tango is also a great subtle color that I like, and looks great on people of all skin tones! (Plus it smells and tastes AMAZING) If you'd like a more dramatic look, go for Cherry Pop, an amazing shade of red!

What I love about this lip gloss other than the great colors and flavors is the way it FEELS. I hate hate hate cheap sticky lip glosses with a passion. This gloss glides on easily, is not sticky in the least, has a great shine, and actually lasts for a good while as well!

This gloss definitely made the cut to be one of the mandatory glosses in my handbag, and I think you would feel the same!

For the life of me I can't find the charger for my camera battery, so I'm not able to take a photo of the gloss on me like I had planned! If you would like to see photos of the gloss on me, please just send me a message and I will send you one as soon as I can find my battery charger!

If you have any questions at all about this product, please do not hesitate to contact me! I will be glad to give color recommendations or anything else you may need!

To buy one for yourself, at a VERY affordable $6.00 per tube, please visit my mark. online store now:
